ACH invites applications for the following officer positions:

  • Communications Officer
  • Deputy Treasurer
  • Deputy Secretary

Each of these roles serve as critical members of the ACH leadership team, contributing to our work and ensuring our smooth operations. Details about each of these positions are provided below.

Each of these positions may be filled by one person, or two people serving as co-officers.

Eligibility

You are very likely eligible! Our key needs are willingness to contribute effort, and enthusiasm for involvement with DH and the ACH—whether or not you’ve been involved in the past, or are keen to get started. We benefit from the perspective of folks new to DH or academia, just as much as folks who can bring past DH experience to the role. We hope for a set of applicants diverse as to race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, ability, profession (including students, folks in non-academic jobs), citizenship, nationality, and other identities and backgrounds. Membership to ACH before or upon appointment is required.

Application Process

To apply, please email the following to secretary@ach.org by August 7, 2026:

  1. Your name, email address, and current affiliation and position (if relevant)
  2. A brief statement of interest, including any relevant experience (150 words or less)

We will be considering applications starting August 7 and will be back in touch then regarding your application and to answer any questions you might have. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until a good match of candidate and ACH needs is found. Applications, as well as any questions you have, can be sent to our our Co-Presidents, Liz Grumbach and Pam Lach (president@ach.org) and our Co-Secretaries, Jajwalya Karajgikar and Emily McGinn (secretary@ach.org).

About our Leadership Positions

In addition to the specific duties listed below, all of our officers attend monthly officer meetings and executive council meetings, as well as initiating or contributing to ongoing Exec projects matching your interests, skills, and availability.

Communications Officer

Our Communications Officer oversees all aspects of our communications, including keeping website content up-to-date (familiarity with GitHub a plus but not required), developing quarterly member newsletters, managing our social media accounts, and assisting in promoting major events (such as our annual conference). We seek individuals who enjoy this kind of outward-facing work, and would welcome a team of individuals who would like to work together. This is a four-year term that would, ideally, include time to collaborate with a future Deputy Communications Officer.

Deputy Treasurer

Our Treasurer manages ACH financial operations, including tracking our budget, issuing payments and honoraria, and managing official filings with the IRS in accordance with ACH’s 501(c)(3) status. This is a four-year term: for the 2026-2027 academic year, the Deputy Treasurer will shadow our current Treasurer (Kathy Torabi) to learn all aspects of the work. In summer 2027, the Deputy Treasurer will become our Treasurer for the remaining years of their term, and partner with a future Deputy Treasurer. See the ACH Constitution & Bylaws for a full list of Treasurer duties: https://ach.org/about/constitution/. Note: while ACH is incorporated in Texas, our Treasurer may reside in any state.

Deputy Secretary

Our Deputy Secretary works with our Co-Secretaries to organize the work of ACH: scheduling meetings, note-taking, sharing info, answering member emails, maintaining documentation and knowledge base. In short, our Secretariat is responsible for the day-to-day administration of ACH. This is a four-year term: for the first two years, you'll serve as Deputy Secretary in partnership with the current Co-Secretaries (Jajwalya Karajgikar and Emily McGinn); the second two years, you'd become the full Secretary and partner with a new Deputy Secretary.
